Pondering a Life of Simple Abundance

What does it mean to live a life of simple abundance? Jesus said "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." A life of simple abundance is a life filled with the essentials and not cluttered with things that steal our joy.
When I have a life of simple abundance: My spirit is calm and peaceful; I am productive and effective; I am connected to my creator; I have meaningful, healthy relationships with other people; My life has purpose and meaning; My environment, schedule and work habits are not hindered by clutter and chaos.

To more fully understand the topic of this blog let's define a few words:

  •    Ponder - To wonder, to think of deeply; To consider carefully and thoroughly.
  •    Essential - Absolutely necessary; basic and fundamental, of the greatest importance.
  •    Simple - Having few parts; not cluttered, complex, or involved.
  •    Abundance - More than enough, overflowingly sufficient; richly supplied.

Quality and Prices

What is the best value? Is it better to buy a single quality item or have a few inexpensive items?  One way to figure the cost is to look at cost per month over the expected lifetime of an item. If item 'A' costs $120 and item 'B' costs $60 which is the better value? If they will last the same amount of time item 'B' is a better value. However, over the life of the item if item 'A' will last 10 years the cost per month is $1. If item 'B' will last 4 years the cost per month is $1.25. Therefore item 'A' would be the better value.

Simplicity in clothes

To have simplicity in your clothing is to feel good about each garment: size fits you well, colors harmonize with your skin, eyes and hair tones. Sytle is in keeping with who you are and the various roles in your life. Taking the time to only add to your wardrobe clothes that fit with these pararmenters allows you to quickly and easily get dressed each day. A simply abundant wardrobe choice is clothing that you don't have to think about. It fits well and is comfortable all day long.

The Meaning of Colors

These are some colors and the psychology of what the colors may represent to some people.

Red = energy, danger, strength, power, determination, passion, love, and dominance.
Light red = joy, sexuality, passion, sensitivity, and love.
Pink = romance, love, happy, friendly, calm, and good health.
Dark red = vigor, willpower, rage, anger, leadership, courage, malice, and wrath.
Brown = stability, reliable, earthy and informal.

Classic Styled 45 Piece Wardrobe Plan

Here is one wardrobe plan that lays out three different looks or uses: Office, Casual and Special Occasion. Some clothing pieces can over lap into all three looks. The colors are coordenated so that any item will harmonize with any other item. This wardrobe plan allows for simplicity in getting dressed since all the pieces work together. The style is classic.

Other plans may follow a different pattern and yet have the beauty of simplicity.

"The Look"

Ever notice someone who is really dressed well? I don't mean fancy or expensive necessarily. I mean someone whose clothing is so congruent with who they are and what they are doing and represent that you actually don't notice the clothes. When "the Look" is just right it has to just fade into the background and you are focused on the person and who they are rather than what they are wearing. That is the power of simplicity in a wardrobe plan.

Simple Abundance in Clothing

A Life of Simple Abundance has many facets. I want to ponder one area at a time. Current focus: Clothing.

What are the reasons involved in my choice of the clothes I wear? What do I want?

  1. To be warm, comfortable.
  2. To be modest, appropriate.
  3. To take pleasure in color and texture.
  4. To project on my outside who I am on my inside. Style.

When I think about a life of simple abundance in regard to clothes I am thinking of

Wardrobe Planning

What is the attitude, or image I want to project with my clothes? That varies with the different roles in my life. Simplicity is to select a few words that capture the essence of that essential image.

In my office, my work, I want to project an image that accurately reflects the work I do and the skills and experience I have. Professional, Insightful, Compassionate.

Core Values and Cothing

In the discussion of clothes we bump into our core values. When I am looking to have my clothes reflect an accurate image of my inside I am talking about my core values, the things I hold to be important.  The world around us and in American culture a tremendous value is put upon outward appearances. Instead of outward appearance reflecting the truth of the inner being the focus is often shifted to outward appearance hiding the inner self. The outward appearance becomes the goal rather than the byproduct.

Essentials of a organized closet

What are the essentials of an organized closet? A plan, any plan is better than no plan becasue to make your plan you are beigning to think more comprehensivly about your clothes. Not just a pile of indivudal things you like (or maybe don't like now), but part of the plan of how you will spend your clothing budget and what result you want from that money spent.

Organizing the closet:

First off - do you have any idea what is in that closet now?
